Product Focus | New Winstar 8.8” STM32N6 AI Display

Product Focus | New Winstar 8.8” STM32N6 AI Display

Bringing AI capabilities into an industrial HMI often means adding a dedicated processing platform to the system, together with its operating system, memory, and increased hardware and software complexity.

With the new WL0F00088000BGXAANA00-FC, Winstar integrates display, touch interface and AI inference capabilities directly into an MCU-based platform powered by the STM32N657, enabling the development of HMI applications with local AI processing without the need for a Linux-based platform.

At the heart of the solution is the STM32N657, paired with the Neural-ART NPU delivering up to 600 GOPS @ 1 GHz, designed to accelerate inference algorithms directly on the device. The platform can therefore handle applications such as object detection, human detection and image classification using a camera connected via MIPI CSI-2 or a parallel interface.

This approach can be particularly interesting when an application requires local response, fast boot-up and independence from cloud connectivity: data can be processed directly on the HMI, without having to be sent to a remote server for inference. Winstar also supports Focused Audio AI applications, such as keyword spotting, in addition to Camera-Based AI functions.

An 8.8” Bar-Type Format for Compact HMIs

The first model in the new platform features an 8.8” IPS TFT display with a resolution of 1920 × 480, in a 1:4 aspect ratio that is particularly well suited to dashboards, horizontally oriented control panels, and applications where vertical space is limited.

The main hardware features include:
      🔸 P/N: WL0F00088000BGXAANA00-FC
      🔸 MCU: STM32N657
      🔸 Neural-ART NPU: up to 600 GOPS @ 1 GHz
      🔸 Display: 8.8” TFT, 1920 × 480
      🔸 Brightness: 450 cd/m² typ., 350 cd/m² min.
      🔸 Touch: PCAP
      🔸 RAM: 32 MB
      🔸 Flash: 64 MB
      🔸 Power supply: 9~36 VDC
      🔸 Operating temperature: -20°~+70 °C
      🔸 Storage temperature: -30°~+80 °C
      🔸 Camera: MIPI CSI-2 / parallel interface.

The availability of 32 MB of RAM and 64 MB of Flash also provides space for GUIs, images, fonts, and application data, as well as the resources required for AI processing. The platform supports both TouchGFX and LVGL; Winstar plans to provide initial code, UI demos, and programming tutorials to help developers get started quickly.

Interfaces Designed for Industrial Integration

One of the most interesting aspects of the module is the number of peripherals already available on the development board. It includes CAN FD, RS485, RS232, Ethernet, UART, SPI, I²C and USB, as well as GPIO, an SD card interface, and dedicated camera interfaces.
This allows the HMI to be connected directly to PLCs, ECUs, sensors, controllers, and industrial networks, bringing graphical interface, machine communication, and AI processing capabilities together within a single platform.
Typical applications may include industrial HMIs, AI-assisted machine vision, dashboards for off-highway vehicles, advanced HVAC systems, professional equipment and control panels featuring local visual recognition or voice control.

A New Winstar Platform Based on STM32N6

The 8.8” model is the first product in the new family. Winstar has already announced plans to extend the STM32N6 architecture to more traditional display formats, including 5”, 7”, and 10.1”.

The first demo kits for the WL0F00088000BGXAANA00-FC are expected in October.
